Counties Manukau Rugby

What Counties Manukau Rugby does

Counties Manukau Rugby is a regional rugby union based in Pukekohe East, New Zealand, founded in 1955. The organization operates as a sports team and Rugby Body hosting rugby leagues and tournaments, with an administrative workforce of 11-50 employees. As a member union within New Zealand's rugby governance hierarchy, Counties Manukau Rugby oversees organized rugby competition across its geographic catchment, serving players, coaches, officials, administrators, and supporters. The union operates within the Rugby Xplorer digital ecosystem — a cloud-based SaaS platform launched in 2019 by Rugby Australia Ltd and operated on a not-for-profit basis through Rugby Xplorer LLC internationally. The platform provides centralized digital infrastructure spanning member registration, competition management, payment processing, digital content delivery, and communication tools. Underlying platform technology is built on cloud services from Salesforce, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services, with data hosted across Australia, Ireland, the United States, New Zealand, and Singapore. The platform also enforces COPPA-compliant children's privacy controls, parental consent verification, and PCI-compliant payment handling to meet regulatory and safety standards for youth and adult participants. Counties Manukau Rugby's business model as a regional union is consistent with a not-for-profit community sports organization: revenue is generated through membership and registration fees, sponsorship, gate receipts, and grants from the national governing body (New Zealand Rugby), with services delivered largely through the shared Rugby Xplorer platform infrastructure rather than proprietary systems.
