Descriptiontext

Northwell Health is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit integrated delivery network headquartered in New York, operating 28 hospitals, more than 250 ambulatory care locations, and a workforce of 10,000+ employees. Its central market alone serves 2.8 million patients across 6 hospitals and 250 ambulatory sites in the Long Island and New York City region. The system provides a full continuum of acute, behavioral health, pediatric, addiction, and outpatient services, with South Oaks Hospital (a 202-bed psychiatric facility in Amityville, NY) serving as the flagship behavioral health subsidiary. Additional wholly-owned operating subsidiaries include Zucker Hillside Hospital, Cohen Children's Medical Center, Staten Island University Hospital, North Shore University Hospital, and Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

The technology stack centers on the iNav AI tool, which applies computer vision and predictive analytics to MRI and CT scan reports to accelerate pancreatic cancer detection across all 28 hospitals, and on digital patient platforms MyNorthwell and FollowMyHealth for scheduling, records access, and provider communication. The proprietary SOGS (South Oaks Gambling Screening) tool, developed in-house and distributed globally at no charge, illustrates the system's IP contribution to the broader behavioral health field. Distribution runs through hospital inpatient services, outpatient clinics, school-based mental health services covering 50+ districts and 200,000+ students, a Behavioral Health College Partnership program, and telehealth.

Northwell generates revenue through fee-for-service healthcare delivery, reimbursed by Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers including Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, Empire BlueCross BlueShield, and United Healthcare. Patient acquisition is referral-based rather than consumer-marketing-driven. Recent strategic activity includes three new behavioral health facilities (Riverhead May 2025, Staten Island LINK January 2026, Melville June 2026), dental practice acquisitions (January 2024), a behavioral health partnership with CN Guidance and Family Service League (September 2024), and continued investment in proprietary AI diagnostics.
