VHV Handbal

What VHV Handbal does

VHV Handbal (legal name Vlaamse Handbalvereniging vzw, DBA Handbal.be) is the official governing federation for handball in the Flemish Community of Belgium, operating under the Belgian national federation KBHB and the European and international bodies EHF and IHF. Headquartered at Dorpsstraat 74, 3545 Halen, Belgium (enterprise number BE 0417 063 079), the organization regulates and develops handball across the five Flemish provinces through affiliated clubs.

The federation's core offerings span competition organization (VHV Liga across multiple men's and women's divisions, youth championships JM14/M14/JM16/M16/J18/M19, the Lotto Handball Cup, and beach handball tournaments), training and certification (HandbalAcademie, A/B/C trainer licenses, referee development, the VHV Handbal Symposium webinars), and participation programs (Hand2girls for ages 4-7, G-Handbal for para-athletes, Fithandbal for adults 30+, Streethandball, and youth camps). Underlying technology consists of digital member and competition management platforms (Big Captain, transitioning to Clubee from the 2026-2027 season), the Digitaal Wedstrijdblad digital match reporting system, and the HandbalAcademie online learning platform, integrated with the external HBint/Nuscore2 match tool.

VHV is a non-profit (vzw under Belgian law) financed through recurring membership and competition fees from affiliated clubs and players, Flemish government subsidies via Sport Vlaanderen (including JeugdSportFonds), and sponsorships from Ethias, Nationale Loterij/Euromillions, Erima, De Pivot, Elewijt Center, and Sport Vlaanderen. Governance is carried out by a Raad van Bestuur with specialized cells (Cel Competitie, Cel Financiën, Cel JSF, GES-Cel) and disciplinary bodies (Raad van Eerste Aanleg, Raad van Beroep), reflecting a member-owned federation structure rather than a commercial enterprise.
