Eltham Basketball Cooperative Ltd

What Eltham Basketball Cooperative Ltd does

Eltham Basketball Cooperative Ltd operates the Eltham Wildcats Basketball Club, a community basketball cooperative based in Eltham, Victoria, Australia, and is one of the largest community basketball clubs in Australia. Founded in 1965, the club has operated continuously for over sixty years and serves approximately 7,000+ members, including 3,000+ junior players, 1,200+ senior players, and 600+ coaches across a tiered pathway from introductory programs for ages 3-4 through to senior elite competition.

The club runs a multi-tier programming structure: Mini Cubs (ages 3-4) and Cub Squad (ages 5-10) at the entry level; development squads and Representative and Futures academies at the development level; and competition streams spanning Junior Domestic EDJBA, Senior Domestic, VJBL, EDL, 3x3, NBL1 South, and BigV Youth League at the competitive level. Inclusive programs including Walking Basketball for older adults and Unified programs for neurodiverse participants broaden the membership base beyond traditional competitive pathways. Revenue is generated through player registration fees of A$385-450, uniform and apparel sales via an iAthletic online store, canteen and hospitality operations, local sponsorships, and NBL1 South / BigV Youth League team operations.

The entity is structured as an incorporated association/cooperative with volunteer governance and is not a technology- or venture-backed business. There is no disclosed proprietary software, AI/ML capability, or external funding. The 2026 operating period has been marked by governance disruption: an external review of the club's practices commenced on 24 July 2026, President Peter Meehan stepped down with Carrie Davies assuming the role of acting President, and former CEO Richard Irving has been the subject of court proceedings.
