ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar

What ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar does

ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar (legal name: ÍBV íþróttafélag) is a community-owned sports association founded in 1903 and headquartered at Túsheimili in Vestmannaeyjar, Westman Islands, Iceland. The club operates two core sporting departments — football (fótbolti) and handball (handbolti) — with men's and women's senior teams (meistaraflokkur karla/kvenna) competing in Icelandic national leagues, plus a youth development pipeline (yngri flokkar) that has produced multiple national-team-caliber athletes. Home venues include Hásteinsvöllur (football stadium) and Höllin (handball arena), and the handball department participates in European competitions.

The organization is funded through a diversified but small-scale revenue mix consisting of recurring membership fees, corporate sponsorships (anchored by Eimskip as main handball sponsor, with secondary advertisers including Íslandsbanki, Skeljungur, TM Tryggingar, Landsbankinn, Herjólfur, VSV, Ísfélag, and Dalurinn), merchandise sales via h-verslun.is and Sportabler, and event income from hosted tournaments (Eyjablikksmótið, Orkumótið, TM Mótið í Eyjum) and community festivals such as Þrettándinn. Its go-to-market is community-led: the club recruits members locally, runs youth and senior competitive teams, and serves as the central sporting and cultural institution for Vestmannaeyjar's roughly 4,500 residents.

Beyond sport, ÍBV operates a small media arm (ÍBV miðlar) comprising a YouTube channel (ÍBV-TV), a podcast (ÍBV hlaðvarp), and an annual magazine (Þrettandablaðið). The club is governed by a board (aðalstjórn) under Icelandic association law, with no disclosed external investors, parent company, or venture funding. The entity is a private non-profit sports association, not publicly traded, and operates 17 employees across its functions.
