normal professional baseball competitors and assessment
Company assessmentDirect peers
- Northwoods League: The Northwoods League is a collegiate summer baseball league operating across the Upper Midwest. It is directly comparable because it organizes teams in college towns (similar in scale and market to what the Normal CornBelters franchise offered) and recruits top NCAA-eligible players for its summer season.
- Cape Cod Baseball League: The Cape Cod League is one of the most prominent collegiate summer baseball leagues in the U.S., operating teams in New England towns. It is comparable because it serves the same product category — amateur summer baseball played by top college players in front of local fans — under a comparable league structure.
- Coastal Plain League: The Coastal Plain League operates collegiate summer baseball teams across the Southeast. It is directly comparable as another wood-bat summer league franchise operator with a similar target market (college towns, NCAA-eligible players, local fans) and similar revenue model (gates, sponsorships, concessions).
- Prospect League: The Prospect League was the collegiate summer baseball league in which the Normal CornBelters historically competed. It is the most directly comparable peer because it operated the same franchise (same league slot, same conference schedule) and continues to run teams in comparable Midwest college towns.
- Valley Baseball League: The Valley Baseball League is a collegiate summer baseball league based in Virginia. It is comparable because it operates amateur teams in college communities using the same summer-season, wood-bat, NCAA-eligible-player format that the Normal CornBelters used.
- New England Collegiate Baseball League: The New England Collegiate Baseball League operates summer collegiate teams in the Northeast. It is comparable as a wood-bat summer league serving similar NCAA talent and college-town fan bases, competing for the same audience and player pool as the Prospect League teams like the Normal CornBelters.
Emerging players
- Perfect Game: Perfect Game is the dominant amateur baseball showcase and media organization in the U.S., running tournaments, rankings, and scouting events. It is comparable because it operates in the same amateur-baseball ecosystem that supplies players and audiences to collegiate summer leagues like the one the Normal CornBelters played in.
Broad incumbents
- Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Clubs: The Atlantic League is an independent professional baseball league, one tier above collegiate summer baseball. It is broadly comparable because it operates independent baseball franchises in similar-sized communities using a comparable gate-driven, sponsorship-supported revenue model.
