The Garden City Telegram

What The Garden City Telegram does

The Garden City Telegram is a local newspaper serving Garden City, Kansas, and the surrounding Finney County area in southwest Kansas. The publication provides coverage across multiple editorial categories including local news, sports, entertainment, lifestyle, opinion, obituaries, classifieds, and legal notices. It is operated by CherryRoad Media, a media company founded in 2020 by CEO Jeremy Gulban that traces its corporate lineage to DataStudy Inc (1983) and CherryRoad Technologies (2003). The digital presence was launched in 2023.

The product is delivered through two parallel channels: a print newspaper distributed to local subscribers, and a digital subscription service offering online article access, archives, and digital issues. The technology stack is built on a WordPress-based content management system with eType digital publishing services powering classifieds, legal notices, and digital issues. The website supports multi-language accessibility and conforms to WCAG 2.1 AA standards. Marketing and audience engagement are driven by the website, digital newsletters (Mid-Week and Late-Week categories), and organic social media. Obituaries are managed through a separate legacy.com-backed platform, and a dedicated regional jobs portal extends the classifieds vertical.

The business model is anchored in subscription revenue from both print and digital channels, supplemented by classified advertising, legal notice publishing, and obituary services. The customer base is geographically concentrated in Garden City and Finney County, with local community residents as the primary segment. Specific pricing is not publicly disclosed. The publication operates with 11-50 employees and is part of the broader CherryRoad Media portfolio of local newspapers, with no disclosed funding, M&A activity, or financial KPIs.
