Nebraska Nursery & Color Gardens

What Nebraska Nursery & Color Gardens does

Nebraska Nursery & Color Gardens is a private landscaping services company headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska. Founded in 1999, the firm provides landscape design, installation, tree spading, and ongoing plant care services to customers in its local market. Its service mix spans project-based work (design and installation) and recurring maintenance (plant care, tree spading), consistent with a hybrid residential and light-commercial landscaping model.

The company operates as a small, locally focused services business with an employee count in the 11-50 range. Its primary assets are field crews, horticultural expertise, and equipment for physically intensive services such as tree spading and landscape installation. No technology platform, proprietary software, or formal product offering was disclosed; service delivery appears to be traditional, labor-driven, and project-based rather than technology-enabled.

The business model is straightforward services revenue: customers are billed for design, installation, and maintenance engagements with pricing that is not publicly disclosed. The company is led by Ben Hastreiter in a combined President & Operations role. No funding rounds, partnerships, M&A activity, or expansion signals were available in the source data, and the company website returned only a verification screen during data capture, limiting the ability to validate further operational detail.

• Bartlett Tree Experts: Specialty tree and shrub care company offering arboriculture services including transplanting (spading). Comparable in plant-care and tree-handling capability, though focused primarily on tree work rather than full landscape design.

Broad incumbents

• BrightView Landscape Services: Largest commercial landscaping services provider in North America. Comparable as a full-service landscape design, installation, and maintenance operator, though far larger and focused on commercial/enterprise accounts.
• Davey Tree Expert Company: Established tree care and landscape services company with tree spading/arboriculture expertise directly comparable to Nebraska Nursery & Color Gardens' tree spading offering, but operating at national scale with employee-ownership structure.

Others

• SiteOne Landscape Supply: National wholesale distributor of landscape supplies, nursery stock, and irrigation products. Not a direct competitor but a key supplier to landscaping services firms of this size and an indirect indicator of competitive intensity.

Emerging players

• Yard Mastery / Local Lincoln-area landscapers: Small Lincoln-area landscape and lawn-care operators that compete for the same residential and small-commercial install/maintenance work. Direct competition but limited public profiles prevent naming a specific comparable.

Regional players

• Campbell's Nurseries & Garden Centers: Regional Nebraska garden center and landscape services operator combining retail nursery with design and installation. Comparable service mix and regional customer base, with broader retail presence than the subject.
• Bluebird Nursery: Nebraska-based wholesale nursery producing perennials, grasses, and ornamental plants. Comparable as a Nebraska horticulture supplier that the subject company likely sources from and whose product range overlaps with the subject's plant-care focus.
