What Fortheloveoflight does
Fortheloveoflight is an independent lighting design consultancy headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark (Sturlasgade 10L), founded in 2013 and operating as a 7-person studio. The firm provides professional lighting design services for cultural institutions, museums, religious heritage buildings, urban public spaces, arenas, and commercial flagships, working primarily in Denmark with selective international commissions in the UK (Science Museum London, Dover Wartime Tunnels) and Greenland (Icefjord Centre, Illulissat). Its core offering is project-based design consultancy spanning concept development, hands-on mock-up testing, lighting calculations, and project oversight, delivered as embedded specialist support within larger architectural project teams led by partners such as JAC Studios, Lundgaard & Tranberg, Dorte Mandrup, and LETH & GORI.
On the technology side, Fortheloveoflight's differentiation sits in bespoke luminaire development and craft-driven design methodology rather than in scalable software or AI. Notable proprietary components include the BBX.70 exhibition fixture co-developed with JAC Studios and Mike Stoane Lighting (UK) for the Wadden Sea Exhibition Center, the Parklygten park lamp co-developed with Lundgaard & Tranberg and produced by EWO Lighting for the Posten/Postgrunden urban development, layered twilight-responsive lighting control systems for heritage buildings (Sct. Pauls Church Aarhus, 24 layers), reversible heritage-conserving mounting solutions for listed churches (Gl. Holte, Sct. Pauls), and daylight-integration approaches for triple-height civic spaces (Kvæsthusprojektet, Copenhagen University quadrangle). Distribution is through three channels: direct enterprise engagement, architectural-firm partnerships, and invited design competitions (first prize won at Varde Teater & Musikhus).
Commercially, Fortheloveoflight is a privately held, founder/team-owned professional-services firm with no external investment, no subsidiaries, and no disclosed revenue. Pricing is fully project-based and bespoke — no public price list. The revenue model is single-stream professional services fees, currently anchored in Danish cultural and municipal work with a growing pipeline of UK, Greenland, and productised luminaire engagements. Customer segments are horizontal (museums, churches, urban landscapes, commercial venues) and concentrated entirely in governmental, municipal, and premium enterprise buyers. Marketing is portfolio-led through the firm website and Instagram, with no inbound digital funnel of note.
