ICOONtheater

What ICOONtheater does

ICOONtheater is a non-profit cultural venue and conference center located in the Vathorst district of Amersfoort, Netherlands, operating since 2010 within the shared ICOON building alongside arts school Scholen in de Kunst, public library Bibliotheek Eemland, and secondary school Vathorst College. The venue operates as a flat-floor 225-seat theater (theaterzaal) equipped with professional AV technology including a 12,000 ANSI lumen projector, 5x3 meter projection screen, professional sound and lighting, and a 225-seat grandstand. Surrounding the main hall, the facility offers a foyer and central hall (up to 350 persons), three meeting rooms (15–65 persons), arts classrooms (30–75 persons), and dressing rooms (10 persons), enabling use as both a performance venue and a multi-purpose event space.

The business model is fundamentally a rental model: ICOONtheater rents its spaces to cultural organizations, amateur performing groups, professional touring companies, and corporate clients, while also generating ticket revenue from programmed performances in partnership with Flint and De Lieve Vrouw, the established regional theater programmers of Amersfoort. Ticket prices range from €10–12.50 for children's and family shows to €24.50–29 for cabaret and special guest acts, with a €36.50 three-course theater dinner package offered through restaurant partner dimS. Ticketing is split between Flint's Ticketmatic system for programmed shows and ICOON's own Active Tickets system for rental productions and Scholen in de Kunst performances. The theater operates with a five-person team and receives municipal support from Gemeente Amersfoort, which underwrites affordable venue access for cultural organizations and a subsidized ticket-pricing structure for local audiences.
