What Tanning Supply Shop does
Tanning Supply Shop is a privately held, family-run retail business operating as The Tanning Supply Shop LLC from a 5,300 square foot showroom in Weyauwega, Wisconsin. Founded in 1996 (with 2000 cited in some materials), the company sells tanning beds, tanning lamps, and tanning lotions, and has progressively expanded into adjacent wellness and outdoor-living categories including red light therapy, hot tubs and spas (Clearwater and Dreammaker), far-infrared saunas (TheraSauna), above-ground pools (Legacy), custom Amish-built gazebos, and ceramic smoking grills (Primo). The product portfolio also includes the proprietary Golden Goddess line of tanning lamps, one of only two tanning lamp brands manufactured in the USA, developed and sold under the company's own brand.
The company serves two primary customer segments: commercial tanning salons in Wisconsin that rely on its factory-trained service and repair team for equipment setup, relocation, and on-going maintenance, and residential consumers in Wisconsin plus nationwide shipping customers for lamps, gazebos, and pools. Sales are conducted in-person at the showroom, via toll-free phone, SMS text messaging, and online inquiry forms; tanning lotions cannot be sold online due to manufacturer regulations, and pricing is quote-based rather than listed. The go-to-market is sales-led with price matching, same-day shipping for orders placed by 2pm, and a stated position as the largest tanning bed inventory in the Midwest.
The revenue model is primarily one-time unit sales of mid-to-high ticket durable goods (tanning beds, spas, saunas, pools, gazebos, grills) supplemented by a recurring service and repair revenue stream for commercial salon accounts across Wisconsin. Authorized-distributor relationships with major brands (Australian Gold, Swedish Beauty, California Tan, Philips, Wolff, Cosmedico, Clearwater, Dreammaker, Legacy, Primo, and TheraSauna) form the distribution backbone. The business is operated by 1-10 employees with no outside institutional ownership, no app, no e-commerce for regulated SKUs, and no API or external integrations disclosed.
